Academic Profile
Mr. R. Babu, is an Assistant Professor and Senior Faculty in Tourism at KITTS. He has been working at KITTS since 2009. He is the Coordinator of Centre for Ecotourism of KITTS. A Post Graduate in Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) from Kerala University, Mr.R.Babu also qualified for National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission. He has been trained by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore under Four Months Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in 2009. He has been trained as a Master Trainer under Biz-Sakhi Master Trainer Development Programme conducted by the Centre for Entrepreneurship, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRD & PR), in collaboration with the Disha Project, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2019. Mr. R.Babu has also participated Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) by UGC – Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Madurai Kamaraj University in November – December 2020.
With 12 years’ teaching experience in Tourism and 8 years’ expertise in Research, Mr.R.Babu is also a resource person and trainer for various Tourism related Programmes and Projects. He has taken initiatives at KITTS to obtain membership in United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI).
Mr.R.Babu is holding life membership in Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) from 2019, Indian Institute of Training and Development (ISTD) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) from 2020. He is a naturalist, travel writer, photographer, and travel film maker. His areas of interest are Tourism Geography, International Tourism, Community Development through Tourism Livelihood Programmes, Sustainable Tourism Practices, Tourism Products of India, Environmental Management and Tourism Marketing Management.
Coordinator, Centre for Ecotourism (CET) of KITTSHaving specialized in Sustainable Tourism Practices, particularly in Ecotourism Management, Community Based Tourism, Mr.R.Babu has taken earnest efforts on the areas of Sustainable Tourism Development. The launch of Two Months Naturalists / Interpreters Course, Learn – Live – Lead Community Skill Development Programmes, Ecotourism Regional Workshop Series, Back to Nest – A Living Space for Wings of Life, Sustainable Tourism Community Leaders Programme, Development of Butterfly and Fruit Garden at KITTS and Conduct of Tree Walk Programme at KITTS etc are his major initiatives at KITTS as part of the Sustainable Tourism Programmes.
Coordinator, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India Training ProgrammesIn addition to his academic activities, Mr.R.Babu is a Coordinator for Hunar Se Rozgar Tak (HSRT), Entrepreneurship Programme, Tourism Awareness Programme (TAP) and Destination Based Skill Development Programme of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India implemented by KITTS.
Research ExperienceMr.R.Babu is a Project Director for Two Years Research Project on ‘Community Skill Enhancement Programme for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Community Members in Ecotourism Destinations in Kerala’ sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) from 2019 – 2021. He has served as Principal Investigator for the project on Ecotourism & Micro Enterprises – A Study on Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Calicut District, Paniyeli Poru Ecotourism in Ernakulam District and Kallar Ecotourism at Trivandrum District sponsored by Directorate of Ecotourism, Government of Kerala in 2010 and Co-investigator for the project on Positioning Destination Management Committees (DMC) in the Kerala Context sponsored by Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala in 2010. He has also associated for various tourism related Research Projects undertaken by KITTS.
Seminar and Research Paper PublicationMr.R.Babu has published articles on various aspects of tourism and presented research papers at national and international conferences. The paper Ecotourism in Protected Areas – Uniting People & Creating Sustainability; A Case Study on Kerala at National Conference on Business Innovations, Economics & Management organized by Siliguri Institute of Technology, Sukna Dist, Darjeeling, West Bengal in 2013 declared as Best Paper Award.
